these are the best shots from the kodak ektar 100 film with Zenit camera, the rest of the frames are not even close to something decent. it makes me always sad to see many "unsuccesful" frames, because i love film and always want my film shots be me best shots :) or at least my most artistic ones. i did a lot dslr work lately, especially portraiture (see updated portrait gallery on my website if you haven't had a chance earlier), that i am very happy with, but i also want to keep up my artistic work, and film is so very good for that.
Unless taken early morning, most of the frames are very very dark and have a layer of blueish haze, too thick to look pretty. I knew of course in advance that the pictures are going to be on the darker side, but i quess 3.5 apperture works much worse with ISO 100 in early autumn, than i had ever imagined. i never took picture when was really dark, ost of the pictures were taken in quite a nice yellow evening light; and judging from the similars with dslr, should have looked quite well. but i used 1.4 apperture and probably 250 iso at that time and it made a huge difference! i was thinking about uploading some pics for comparisson but i do not feel like i want to do it, do not feel like giving impression that film was worse than digital, when the mistake was only on my side. Bad combination of iso and lens apperture. you have seen many pics with minolta and the same kodak ektar 100 film and they were very good, but my minolta has a lens with 1.7 apperture and this is a huge difference, especially in autumn, i quess. would it have been my first film roll, i would never touch film camera again. now i know i should use much higher iso film and i'm also thinking more seriuosly about helios lens, i hear it is good for Zenit and not pricey at all.
on the other note so i will be away from here for one week, i am going to my home country for something like combination of vacations, visiting and work; we will visit family & some friends and i will also have quite a lot of photo sessions. i am very happy of course and excited about that, looking forward to this work and to see many beautiful pictures as well as to meet people that i havent seen for years. as much as i know myself, i will be trying to peak into my favorite blogs time after time but probably not much commenting anyway.
I wanted also to tell that I am a bit tired of the "new" Facebook, well, quite a lot, honestly. I probably shouldn't mention it here, but all these new changes left me feeling like i was talking to myself these past weeks. very little to no feedback on something that i consider my good work makes me wonder whether people did not notice my work or my work is not worth noticing - and wonder about that every day makes me tired and sad.
I hear that many artists and pages are taken of the news feed streams unless FB thinks it would be interesting for us. it does not mean big changes to people who comment and "like" often, but it seems that FB thinks that silent readers are not interested in artists pages updates at all. It is not like i have very active business and lots of clients there but i just wanted to get some feedback and to show my work to "regular" people not only artists on Flickr. I know of course what has to be done to get my updates noticed, it had been quite a lot of talk lately, but i just do not feel like telling people to add my page to their favorite lists is something i want to do every day ... and if it is the only way to get my work noticed & attract some clients, i am just not ready for that, not yet.
I hope that our minivacation would be a nice chance to get away from my computer, unplug and to think about that more clearly.
uuuh that was a very long post from me, but here comes the pictures
...and see you later :)

Beautiful pictures of leaves with a little spider on ...... nice!
ReplyDeleteHello Kristina! so are you back from vacation yet? sorry i missed this post, i didn't know you posted it before you left :) firstly, i actually like the frames that turned out with a bit of blue in them, i think it brings out the foggy weather in the morning. I think in that kind of morning weather where it's still not so bright but with quite some shade, 400iso would have worked great with a 3.5 aperture i think, 400iso works quite well in all conditions i find, otherwise you could try with 160iso? i have yet to try the new 160 portra but i heard great things about it. BUT in saying that, any excuse for a new lens is a great one ;)
ReplyDeletei agree, the new fb layout is quite strange, i guess they're trying to filter out stuff and use this subscribe thing and friends list, it takes a little time to get use to.
and anytime away from the computer is a good one, it will get you refreshed and inspired again, looking forward to the captures from your trip!
