made of stone, lens test
i did a bit of extensive lens test yesterday and tested Zenit film camera lens on my digital Nikon. this lens is a bit of a miracle on Zenit and makes world look amazing place in photos. the only thing i can not stop complaining about is how heavy the lens is. when the lens weight is about double of the camera weight you can imagine what i am talking about. when you take photos, you do not hold camera, you hold the lens. tripod might be a good idea for some, but absolutely out of question for me because of my shooting style. the lens is pretty much the same on Nikon. weights about double of the camera, you have to hold the lens not the camera, and then comes the question of focusing. i have issues focusing even with auto focus lenses, so you may imagine manual focus is a bit of a trick to master to me. it is a very challenging trick when the lens is very heavy. the focusing ring on this lens is a challenge in itself, it is either so stiff you may unscrew the lens itself or if you not to careful, it can loosen and you won't be able to focus at all. having said that, the lens is wonderful, it is impossible not to love the bokeh and warm colors it produces. not the lens you mount on any camera and keep in your purse just in case you want to take a picture on you way to work, but despite all the inconvienences it is definitely a very good combination on well planned shoots.
this is how it looks:
