old new

I got another old film camera yesterday. have never seen a camera so dusted as this was. What i like is that it is not very big and quite light-weighted. Works with baterries, auto film transfer and makes a quirky sound while taking pictures. yaaah. I am aware it is nothing close to miracle but I am too weak to say no to any old film camera that i spot on my way. I am thinking everyday-in-my-purse-camera. If it works, then.

old new

Meet the newest member of my photo family :) The legendary russian portrait lens, Helios, had been on my wishlist for almost 2 years, until i finally decided to buy it for myself :) If you follow me long enough, you may know, i am not the one to upgrade my photo gear often. being a firm believer that photography is all about eyes, i always take time to make decisions about any photo related investments and own a minimal amount of photo stuff. having said this, you can imagine, i am very happy to get something big like this lens :) I believe the lens is made at about 60'-70' ies, correct me if i am wrong. It is for my Zenit film camera, but i can teoretically also mount it on my digital Nikon with an adapter. My first impression, that the lens is very metallic, very huge and very heavy. i mean, veeery heavy. it is heavier than the camera itself, heavier than my both cameras together. I am very curiuos how many photos i will be able to take at one time without getting any physical pain in my hands:).

minolta

meet my new old camera, beauty, isn't it. I bought at a thrift store a few days ago and spend a bit more than 24 hours trying to open film compartment without any success. luckily, Darijus did it. he also removed the lens and i was able to clean the mirrors a bit. the minolta it is now with a film roll and beeing tested and i do my best not to hope too much but it seem to be working :)fingers crossed for many beautiful pictures.

a gift from the past

meet my new vintage camera, Zenit with Industar lens. it has been in my family for years, it is the same camera that my Dad has taken tons of pictures when we were small kids. He died of a cancer eleven years ago, we miss him a lot. I am both honoured and happy to have his camera. I got my first film roll developed and scanned yestreday and so so happy with the results, the camera works very well and makes beautiful pictures.

capturing spring

my little girl, at the age of 2,5 believes that all one has to do to take a picture is to take a camera and put high up on ones face, approximately, a nose. good for me, she haven't discovered a shutter, not yet. funny, how confident she look sometimes, going out and casually taking a camera with her:) what else to expect, she is growing up in a family that mother, father and now even older brother does so...

these pictures are taken in April during our Easter vacation, in my moms garden. my little daughter is holding an old film camera that had belonged to my dad, a grandfather my little daughter had never met... my faher had died of cancer about eleven years ago, at the age of only 49...very sad...I do not remember, but he obviuosly was very much into photography, especially when he was young and we were small; we can see a lot of pictures of us as kids in our family home taken by him. and now mom has found four vintage cameras....so sweet of her to keep all these cameras during all those years and give now to us :)

wishing you all a nice weekend.

Catching sunlight

My little treasure works! I am both surprised and relieved. suprised, because it is hard to believe that some fragile looking cute camera, made in 50, 60 or 70 is robust enough and after surviving a way into second hand shop can still operate in 2011. Relieved, because it is was important to me that the camera should not be only to take a pictures of, but to take pictures with. i loaded my first film roll a few days ago and started taking pictures. i am so excited! i want to learn taking pictures with film camera, want to get to know my camera and to be good at taking pictures with it. though i am very concerned about all the manual settings, since i am not so strong on the technical side, I hope to learn it, sooner or later.

My new old camera

I bought myself a vintage film camera yesterday in one of the locals second hand shop. I am so excited and still can not believe my luck! I went to give a second glance to the purse that i was looking at another day and spotted this cute cute camera. Bought it without thinking twice. I was so surprised, since this was not that kind of shop i would expect a camera so vintage. I was wishing myself for a film camera long ago, but could never decide what and where to buy, and this one kind of come into my hands itself. it was not so very pricey, so i hope hope hope it works. i am so excited, and have plenty to read how it works and what film to buy. looks like very very manual, hope i will be able to understand everything. surprisingly, the camera came with users manual :) my lucky day.
